What is Roof Membrane?

Among the membranes used in insulation applications and constituting the essence of insulation, those produced to provide roof insulation are called roof membranes.

What Does Roof Membrane Do?

Insulation is considered as an extremely important issue in controlling the indoor and outdoor physical conditions to which the roof, which is the outer shell element of the building, will be exposed. Protection against water and humidity is provided by using roof membrane products in roof insulation applications. The protection of buildings from all kinds of external factors is an extremely important issue, and roof insulation applications made with the use of roof membrane products can provide a healthier and longer-lasting existence of the structures.

What are Roof Membrane Materials?

The most important issue during the roof insulation process is to use the most suitable and durable roof insulation materials for the area where the work will be done. Protan offers the most suitable and comprehensive solutions in this regard with PVC and TPO membranes of single layer polymer in its wide product range. Protan's wide product range includes membrane products that can be used for roof insulation.

How Are Roof Membrane Materials Used?

Synthetic membranes used in roof insulation applications can be welded in two different ways, with automatic welding machine and hand welding machine. The process with automatic welding machine is divided into two as single row welding in roof applications and double row welding in foundation and tunnel applications. After the surface and joint welding processes are completed, surface and joint welding control can be done in 3 different ways. These; It is a visual, mechanical control and compressed air welding test over the signal layer.

What are the Types of Roof Membrane Materials?

Synthetic membranes are divided into thermoplastics and thermosets. Thermoplastic materials can be heat treated and reprocessed. These materials include PVC, FPO-TPO, HDPE and ECP. PVC membranes, which are not affected by the heat movements caused by the hot - cold differences on the roof for a long time, have a useful life certificate of 40 years. They can be easily applied in all weather conditions. Among the usage areas of PVC membranes; membrane ready panels, reinforced concrete terrace roofs, light metal roofs, garden and parking terraces, foundation and curtain walls, subway, railway and highway tunnels, ponds and ornamental pools, drinking and utility water tanks.

Protan SE membrane can be applied and installed anywhere, straight or curved. Due to its softness, it adapts to all weather conditions. Protan SE membrane series used on exposed roof surfaces is a PVC membrane reinforced with polyester reinforcement. It can be fixed mechanically as well as applied to a vacuum roof system by laying, or it can be laid loosely on a vacuum roof system. It can be used in all shapes and combinations of flat pitched roofs and curved roofs.

Protan SE membrane products are recommended for open roof mounting to vacuum or mechanical fastening systems. These roof systems are suitable for flat and pitched roofs in new buildings and renovation projects. The membrane is made of softened PVC and has polyester reinforcement reinforcement. The Protan SE membrane contains stabilizers that allow it to withstand high and low temperatures. The products have UV resistance and flame retardant properties. In addition, the products are highly resistant to tearing, which is especially important for mechanical fixing on roofs exposed to wind. Since the Protan SE membrane remains flexible at low temperatures, it is considered the easiest product to install at low temperatures.

Protan FPO/TPO is a flexible membrane suitable for exposed roofs and protected structures. It is suitable for all construction industries, including new constructions and renovations. The load-bearing is mechanically fixed to the substrate, or it can be loosely laid and protected with ballast. Protan FPO/TPO can be used to increase the usability of the membrane structure.

Protan EX membrane can be installed mechanically as well as easily installed in the vacuum roof system. It is also suitable for all kinds of surfaces. It can be applied directly to bituminous roofing and wooden surfaces.

Advantages of Roofing Membrane

Thanks to roof insulation applications, the safety of the building is ensured throughout its economic life. With the roof insulation made by the use of membranes, the roof is protected from all kinds of water threats. At the same time, situations that may pose risks such as condensation, sweating and corrosion that may occur in the structures are prevented. With roof membrane applications, it is aimed to preserve the quality of the building on the first day.
